Vision for New Pool Outdoor Area
Melissa wanted a Mediterranean-style look in the area surrounding her newly installed pool.
She had already renovated the interior of her home and painted it Dulux Casper White. To provide a nice indoor-outdoor flow, she wanted to continue with that colour scheme for the exterior.
Unforeseen Challenges
During the pool’s installation, a tree stump caused an issue and needed to be removed with a digger to make way for the pool. As a result, the brick wall between the driveway and the pool area had to be taken down and rebuilt. This new wall was made of bare bricks and required three coats of paint in the Shire’s colour scheme to match the surroundings.
Unfortunately, the mortar in the new brick wall was deep, and we had to brush into most of the deep grooves instead of simply rolling on the paint to get superb coverage. This brushwork took extra time and effort, but the result was worth it.
The Painting Process
The existing painted brick walls showed signs of age, with peeling and flaking paint, and Melissa suggested we pressure-wash them. We advised against pressure-washing and explained that scraping the flaking paint off by hand was far less messy, albeit more time-consuming, especially with the pool so close by. We also explained that pressure-washing can cause problems with the brick because the water gets forced into it and can become trapped inside the layer of paint.
Melissa had laid new, clean concrete around the pool and clearly stated that she didn’t want any paint on it. So, of course, we took extra special care to cover the surfaces before we opened any paint. And I can safely say we didn’t spill one drop of paint!!
Challenges for Us
Over the two days we were painting Melissa’s brick outdoor pool area, we had the two hottest days this spring. The temperature was upwards of 30 degrees 🥵 And by the end of the repaint, that pool looked very inviting!!
The Transformation
We are so happy with the result of Melissa’s brick walls of her outdoor pool area in Peppermint Grove. We transformed the space from a drab cream (not drag queen 😆) to a fresh Mediterranean-looking area where one wants to grab a Margarita 🍸and relax by the pool!
Melissa is a graphic designer who created an artist’s impression of her pool area, which looks very Mediterranean. We have helped her achieve this. Judge for yourself: see the before and after photos.
One of Melissa’s many finishing touches in her home is gold detail (brushed brass) on taps, light fittings, electrical outlets, and fixtures. Our favourite is the beautiful copper shower in the outdoor pool area. Although not brass (because the brass one costs $2500, whoa), its golden glow stands out against the newly painted brick, and oh my, it’s gorgeous! See below 👇
We love Melissa’s interior design, which shows how creative she is. For this reason, we recommend that if you want any graphic design work done, you check out her website, www.theend.com.au.
Thanks, Melissa, for allowing us to help you create this gorgeous area, and we look forward to the finished photos. 🙌
What a transformation!
I love the finished result, the pool is very inviting.
Such a stunning finish! Reminds me of Greece 🍹
